Hi gnetwerker
Zitat:
When I get the menu, sometimes I can execute the recovery cd, and it speeds through as though the disk were tiny, but nothing is actually written.

When the recovery is so short, the HDD is not rcognized in the BIOS
Zitat:
With the 3.5" disk, I get the menu, and it goes through the motions of loading, but the resulting disk doesn't boot.

Tihs looks like a good recovery but a bad HDreset after it.
Zitat:
In each case I burned them with Nero Burning ROM in image mode, with "Disk at once" and "Finalize" options.

These are not the main options for a right burning.
You have to choose "burn a ISO" or "burn as ISO".
Check the HDreset CD in your PCdrive and look if there only one file (the ISO) this is bad.

BYe André

After occassional boot errors in the past I finally had to replace my original HDD because the HF didn't boot anymore after a crash during an audio recording. At boot time I couldn't start the recovery CD (official CD by Hermstedt, entered after the three CDs appeared on display, HF started to read CD, no menu occured, tried many times with the same result, sometimes I got a 'could not mount root' error. Once I could even start recovery but it finally failed during creation of the music partition).

After replacing the HDD the same recovery CD worked seamlessly. Therefore a boot failure of the recovery CD can also be caused by a defective HDD.

There a several threads on this matter, but this English one seems to fit best. So here is my problem: Fidel PRO160S, 3,5" Seagate 160GB replaced by 3,5" WD5000AAKB Caviar Blue 500GB.

System Recovery with 2.3.14 at the end shows: "System erfolgreich wiederhergestellt", restart: "System wird neu gestartet"
display shows bootup screen and fidel the expected behaviour: no boot.

Did make a HDReset-CD, inserted it into the drive (it in effect is pulled in) and ... nothing happens. Display still shows the three CDs screen & no sign of activity from the CD drive.

Power off the hard way: pulled out the power socket. And what remains is ... confusion.

Directoy of HDReset CD looks like this:

Datentr„ger in Laufwerk Z: ist hdreset_100115
Volumeseriennummer: 9079-FBED

Verzeichnis von Z:\

Ideas: HDReset CD not (Nero)burnt the correct way, used "wrong" HD.

Any other ideas/suggestions?

Hi guys,

my update today:
using a 2.5" HD SAMSUNG HM500JI (500GB) with a SATA-/IDE-Adapter seems to work perfectly. The test with copying the backup back the new hd works without any problems since hours - still not finished but I think this is already a very positive indication.

2.5" hd has a dramatic advantage: it is very low on noise.

The SATA-/IDE-adapter is bought here: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... AQ:DE:1123

This unit should also fit physically.

Cheers
Heidegeist

Since a couple of months I have running my Hifidelio with a 1Tb Samsung SATA drive with a IDI to SATA adapter. It works fine with no problem. The IDE to SATA converter, however must have a switch to set the drive to master. Otherwise it don't work.

Cheers,
Rob

Hello soundman,
which IDE to SATA Adapter do you use? My Abapter like http://cgi.ebay.de/IDE-Serial-ATA-S-ATA ... 3f06b01c71
has a groundet Pin 28 (Cable Select), is also set to master. Ist this right?

Edit: I see in the right corner: missing jumpers = master

Winfried
