Hi all,
I recently upgrade my Hifidelio Pro. Bought it secondhand several years ago, and it has a manufacture date of June 2005 printed inside the case. The previous owner did some clumsy modification to get the unit silence. Maybe at that time there was no hard disk silence kit available.
I removed all of the modifications. To get the unit really silence using a SSD is far the best option. Lucky for us Crucial sells the MX100 series of SSD with one of the best price per GB and very high I/O throughput. Of course the used IDE - SATA converter limits the throughput to SATA150 whereas the Crucial uses SATA600.
Because the Hifidelio IDE cable is a little short I bought an IDE extension cable so I could screw the SSD directly on top of the hard disk frame for maximum cooling.
Replaced also the outdated WIFI-card with a newer version for better WPA/WPA2 support.
After the modifications I did an hdreset, install from the original recovery cd and afterwards upgrade to 2.4 also from cd.
I did several tests and the unit is running flawless for a couple of weeks now. Importing a bunch of flac files goes blindly fast.
