I apologize for another English language post. Google Translation does not work well for this site.

I recently changed a large amount of metadata for albums on my Olive Musica (Hifidelio clone). In the process, I ended up with many empty artist and album folders. I would like to delete them because their presence makes it more difficult for me to sync with my NAS, where I keep a duplicate of my /audio/music/ directory so that I can stream to other locations in my home.

I can see the /audio/music/ directory on my network due to my edits to the smb.conf file. Unfortunately, I do not seem to have permission to delete the directories using my Windows 7 file manager'' "delete" function.

Although I have no linux training, I also have tried using telnet, logging on at the rood, using CD to get to the /audio/music/ directory, and the using RD or RD -R to try deleting folders. Unfortunately, I get "no such command" or "no such directory" errors when using Windows 7 telnet.

Is there a way to delete empty folders in the music directory? If so, I appreciate your guidance. Thank you.

"rd" ist not a valid linux-command. try "rmdir" (for deleting an empty directory) or "rm -rf" (for deleting a folder with all its subfolders) instead.

It is better to use the maintenance functions (Settings & Specials > Service > Maintenance >). If done in the right order, there should be no empty folders left. See manual for more info.

Sorry. I should have said that I have tried all linux commands that I could find by googling, including those two. When I use those commands, I haven't gotten error messages but, then again, the directories are not deleted, either.

I clearly have not been able to learn linux by just googling commands and trying to use them like DOS commands. I can't even bring up a directory list by using any of the Is commands. I get the error message "bash [command] command not found." Also, when I try to change directories [CD) to any of the folders within /audio/music/, I get the message "bash: CD /[directory name]/ No such file or directory."

I had been using my Windows 7 machine but just replicated the results using an XP computer. So, telnet may not be the best way for me to proceed, given that I don't know enough about linux to be certain that I won't ruin something by accident.

With respect to the maintenance functions, I just reviewed the manual as RonaldPR suggested. Thank you. I think the only potentially relevant function is "check library." (The others appear to concern adding or correcting metadata.) From the description of "check library," it sounds as though it is going to isolate individual files that have not been imported into the library but not necessarily to delete folders without files in them. However, I probably risk little by trying this option and I will do so.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

EDIT: I just realized that, where I had been typing Is, I should have typed ls. I will see if I can figure out if I am mistyping any of the directory names once i can get a list of them.

I again have tried rmdir and rm -rf to delete directories. While I get no error messages, the directories seem to remain in place.
