Hi.
I have download .flac file in 16bit 44 kHz without problems and the HF is great in playback, but...

...I have download .flac file in 24bit 96 and also 88 kHz and the sound was so "slow" like old 45rpm vinyl played into 33rpm...

Maybe these standard are NOT supported by HF?
And the 24/44 kHz? (not tryed...)

Thank you, Luca :?

I don't think these formats are supported by the hifidelio.
The DAC is a 16bit/44.1kHz type, so any format supporting more will only waste disk space, but not improve sound quality.

Thank you, but...
I don't use the internal DAC but the digital output, in fact the sound is not "digital noises" or "mute", but the songs are "slow"...very "slow"...

The S/PDIF output at the hifidelio only supports 32kHz, 44.1kHz and 48kHz sampling rate. With the current SW, the output is set fixed to 44.1kHz, no matter what the sampling rate of the source is.
Cunclusion: In theory, if somebody had the source-code, the hifidelio could be made compatible with 88kHz FLACs, but again with no improved sound quality, because the S/PDIF hardware doesn't support these sampling rates.

The slow sound is simply the result of the fact that the source is sampled with 88kHz and played back with 44kHz.

Thank you very much for this reply!
So...is a firmware problem, right?
(I think toslink and coaxial digital output are compatibles with 24/96)
And...what about Olive that is a HF??? (I run HF with the Olive 2.3.18 firmware...)

Luca

Sort of. But don't expect a new firmware ever to come out which fixes this - it would make not much sense, since:

Zitat:

No, they are not. Both, Toslink and coaxial digital output are connected to an AC97 chip, which only supports 32kHz, 44.1kHz and 48 kHz.

96 and 192kHz are not supported at all.

They are 100% compatible - it is, in fact, the same firmware.

Is it possible to use the USB port of the HF in combination with a USB-DAC to play anything above 48kHz?

...so you think a 24bit/48kHz will be ok???

Thank you.

As I wrote before: The SW sets the sampling rate at the S/PDIF interface to 44.1kHz.
I also doubt that the hifidelio-hardware is able to transmit more than 16bits@44.1kHz towards the AC97 chip, where the S/PDIF interface is connected to. But even it is, SW will not support it.

No source code, no drivers, no use for any additional hardware.

BTW: From what source do you get these HIRES-Flac-Files? Are these rips from (rare?) SuperAudio-CDs or Audio-DVDs?

P.S. You think that the OPUS has changed (the firmware we see is the same) hardware? Because the HIRES .flac files are full compatible with 1.2.1 flac and Olive is full compatible with "our" firmware...

As far as I know, the only change in OPUS hardware is a different/additional DAC on a seperate little add-on board. This change should be completely indepedent from SW.

Do you mean that the Opus will play the files? I don't believe that.

The Opus 5 uses a 192kHz DAC so its hardware should allow for high res music. The other models are similar to the HF.

...yes...if only I can find a 24/48 flac to try... (I hav got a DAC 24/192)...
If you find it, please add here, so I will try...
Thanks, L.
