I still find problems by playing\importing lots of flac files. When I look at the file information (within HF) everyting is on space or zero. Winamp doesn't see to find any problem and playing them perfectly and also displaying all the tag information however. It can happen that a few files are imported normally while the rest of the CD are skipped and not playable.

Looks like there is something in the FLAC files which isn't understood by or confuses HF.. :(

On my HF I use flac files only and I never had any problems playing them.

I vaguely remember seeing postings in the forum about problems with flac a long time ago, but I cannot find them.

Where do the problematic flac files originate from (how/where were they encoded) and wich firmware version is installed on your HF?

I have tried to rip CDs to FLAC on my PC. With 2.3.14 I got error messages (invalid file) when importing.
Later I tried it again (2.3.18) with succes but I was finished bulkloading at that time so I tried only one or two songs.

Maybe something with tags?
Maybe this is of use: http://www.vuplayer.com/other.php, a tester for FLAC files.

Aardig: 3 hollanders die in het engels corresponderen over een duits product.

HF firmware v2.3.17 and I always edit the tags using mp3tag before moving files to the HF.

Is the HF only compliant up to a specific (and maybe a bit older) tag version?

I'll check the flac's with that tester and see what comes out.

Thanks.

What I did:

copied the flac files to \\hifidelio\import

1. tried to import it => failed
2. tested these flac files directly from the HF share with the audiotester tool => no problems with the flac files
3. within windows explorer all shown tag information looks ok
4. played them in winamp => no problem
5. flac file on usb stick in fidelio => again the problem. won't play the files and no tag information available

:?

Normally, I would say: Get a debug.log, then we can see what's happening and Hermstedt will fix it. Unfortunately, the 2nd part isn't so easy in these days :?

In this thread (in German) is described what seems to me the same problem:

http://www.hifidelio-user.de/viewtopic.php?t=3146

The problem there was that the FLAC files contained, next to correct FLAC tags, also id3 tags. Those should not be used in FLAC files, but many programs, like Winamp and foobar, do not present problems, possibly simply ignore the id3 tags.

For importing these FLAC files in the Hifidelio, the id3 tags need to be removed. One solution that was suggested was to use foobar to convert FLAC to FLAC and make sure only FLAC tags are used, or to use MP3tag to remove all tags and then reverse the action which should result in restoring only the tags that belong to the set (FLAC) format.

Great!!!!

I think the solution is nearby..

I can confirm the id3 tags are causing all this

I found a commandline tool TAG.EXE which can run from the commandline and removes all ID3 tags from the selected FLAC files

I've tried it with a few files and now they play like a charme without loosing my FLAC tag information which is still kept

find tag.exe here
http://www.synthetic-soul.co.uk/tag/

I used this commandline
TAG.EXE --recursive --remove --force FLAC \\hifidelio\import\*.flac
(I know it's a bad idea to this over a network share, but just for testing.. :) )
runs pretty fast also. great tool.

source is available aswell but migrating it to HF is probably not a 5 minute job.. :?
Should be great however: just run it native recursively on the HF just for importing of USB drive after connecting it. (I have a big one connected permenantly)
